Troika Trio: Larry London, Victor Romasevich, Arkadi Serper

Mozart’s “Kegelstatt” Trio, for viola, clarinet and piano, is probably the finest composition for this combination and is one of Mozart’s masterpieces in chamber music. It was commissioned by Anton Stadler, a clarinetist and friend of Mozart. “Kegelstatt” refers to a place where skittles, a form of bowling, is played. Between rounds of skittles, Mozart wrote a number of compositions, mainly duos for French horns; and although this “Trio” was probably not written in that setting, the title was later added by publishers. It was first performed at the home of the Jacquin family, friends of Mozart, with Mozart on viola, Stadler on clarinet, and Franziska Jacquin, Mozart’s student, on piano. (see more below)

The Troika Trio is composer, arranger and performer Larry London, violinist Victor Romasevich and pianist and composer Arkadi Serper.
